Are we nearing the end of study programmes?
The speaker does not think degree programmes are ending — they will become more specialized and tailored to new societal problems (AI, renewable energy, cybersecurity, biotechnology), as the job market demands more specific skill sets. What will change is flexibility within degrees: a core curriculum plus electives and micro-credentials, and more interdisciplinary combinations (e.g. political science plus data analytics). Degrees will not disappear — they still provide structure, credibility and a knowledge foundation — but they will evolve into tools for shaping unique professional paths, continuing to signal achievement while adapting their content to a changing world and to careers not yet imagined.
Degrees will evolve into becoming tools for shaping unique professional paths rather than rigid agreements.
